Problem

Why the Old Website Wasn’t Driving Engagement

Waterlogix, a water treatment service provider, wanted to improve user engagement and lead generation. Their existing website had several issues, including an overload of information on service pages and numerous external brochures, which resulted in a high bounce rate. Additionally, the site lacked mobile responsiveness, strong SEO, and concise, compelling copy.

  • Outdated Design and Poor Navigation: The site had an old-fashioned look, with key information buried and a layout that made it difficult for users to navigate, leading to high bounce rates.

  • Lack of Mobile Responsiveness: The website didn’t adapt well on mobile devices, causing usability issues for smartphone and tablet users.

  • Weak SEO Performance: Limited keyword optimisation and poor SEO practices led to low search visibility, reducing reach to potential customers.

  • Unengaging Copy: The copy was either too technical or generic, lacking clear messaging about Waterlogix’s value and effective CTAs to encourage user actions.

  • Low Engagement and Conversion Rates: Overall, these issues resulted in minimal user engagement and low lead generation.

Take Aways

What I learned working on Waterlogix

Prioritization of Information:

I learned that prioritizing information is crucial from both user and business perspectives. A clear structure helps users find what they need quickly while supporting business goals.

SEO-Driven Content Design:

Designing for content with SEO in mind is essential. This approach enhances visibility and attracts organic traffic, ensuring the content reaches the intended audience.

Insights from Stakeholders:

Engaging stakeholders is vital, as they often possess valuable insights about their users that designers may not be aware of. Asking for this information can lead to more informed design.

Design Decisions

Solution and Key Design Decisions

Simplifying Navigation with Dropdowns:

To reduce overload and keep users engaged, I consolidated key information into dropdowns on service pages, minimizing external links. This approach made navigation easier and reduced bounce rates by keeping essential details directly on the site.

Creating Clear Action Paths:

To facilitate lead generation, I proposed separate forms for specific actions: a quote/consultation request form and a popup for free water testing that lets users quickly book a slot. This separation would provide users with clear pathways to engage with Waterlogix services, reducing confusion and increasing conversion rate

SEO and Copy Revamp:

I brainstormed ways to enhance the copy by focusing on clear, action-oriented language that highlights Waterlogix’s unique value. Additionally, I developed an SEO strategy to incorporate relevant keywords, improve search rankings, and drive organic traffic.
